Hi Roberta,
I was doing some research on my ancestors Alfred & Sarah Davis. Looks like Sarah died sometime after 1870 and in hte 1880 census Alfred and his 2nd wife (or maybe daughter) is living with your Richard Totten.
The link below will take to to a 1873 map of south Oyster Bay. If you look all the way on the left near the words Plainedge and Williamsville you can see an R. Totten.

The next link is the Jerusalem Friends cemetery where there is a Richard Totten and a Sarah A. Totten buried along with an Elizabeth wife of Jacob Totten. The dates/names don't exactly match up, but they are pretty close. If he is not your Richard Totten, then he is probably a relative.

Just wondering if you found out what the Davis connection is? Alfred Davis' first wife Sarah M. Hendrickson is my ancestor. If you have any info on this family I would appreciate it, if you could pass it along.
Good Luck with your search!
