The Microsoft Knowledge Base contains ARTICLE-ID: Q150579, which has the TITLE: DriveSpace Is Not Supported with FAT32 Drives. Here's what it says about the error message you're getting:
"DriveSpace was designed to work with the FAT12 and FAT16 file systems and cannot be used with drives using the FAT32 file system."
In the future, you can access the Knowlege Base by going to Microsoft's website -- http://www.microsoft.com -- and selecting Support. There is third party compression software available that will work with FAT32 drives, however, it is strongly recommended that you do not follow this course except as a last resort!
If your PC is new enough to have FAT32 file systems, it is likely new enough to have a spacious hard drive, probably one so large that it has been partitioned in Drive C, Drive D, and maybe more. I would guess that you're not using the other drives.
The solution to getting more hard disk space is not compression but cleanup and re-arrangement. We recommend that you purchase good uninstallation software -- Uninstaller from CyberMedia is excellent -- and use it both to remove unneeded programs and to move programs now installed on Drive C to other drives.
Good luck!
