Error messages relating to the "drive controller" usually mean that there is a problem with the logic circuitry used to manage the hard drive. The message can also be generated by a ribbon cable, or by a defective hard drive.
The logic circuits controlling the hard drive are two-fold. One part is resident on the motherboard and is not drive-specific. The other part is specific and is physically located on the printed circuit board attached to the hard drive case.
Trouble-shooting a drive controller error is very difficult without a spare cable and a spare hard drive. You are best advised to take your unit into a shop that can do the trouble-shooting and possibly rescue the hard drive contents.
Good luck!
