If you can play audio CD's, your sound card is working. To enable sounds for Windows events, go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Sounds and use the Sounds dialog to assign WAV files to the various Windows events. You may also have to go to Multimedia/Audio within Control Panel to make sure your sound card has been selected as the preferred Playback device.

Good luck!
