Subject: Scandisk/ Defrag

I try running scand disk and disk defragmenter,
but they seem to be having problems. Disk Defragmenter will restart
many times, particularly around the point that it reaches 10% complete...
Scan disk continually send me a message that windows, or some other
program is trying to contact scan disk. However, all my programs
(except Explorer) are closed. Please tell me what might be wrong!!!!
