If Device Manager doesn't allow you to disable the display adapter it means either that the motherboard is defective or that the adapter wasn't designed to be disabled.
The newest PCs automatically disable the display adapter when another is plugged into an extension slot (and it is recognized by the motherboard). Earlier PCs required you to change a setting in BIOS (Set Up). Even earlier machines had jumpers on the motherboard. Of course, the earliest had display adapters that themselves could be physically removed.
Good luck!
