Subject: Re: HDD in "MS DOS compatibility mode"

There are two primary reasons why the operating system will force a disk into MS-DOS compatability mode.

The first, and most likely, is a virus. Get the latest virus signatures for your virus scanner, and check your system.

The second is an improperly accessed CD drive. This could be a CD-ROM, CD-RW, or DVD drive which is using a DOS (real mode) driver instead of Windows virtual driver. In your CONFIG.SYS, put a semicolon or REM at the beginning of any line which loads a DEVICE for a CD drive.

Removing the virus and/or disabling a real mode CD driver should put your secondary hard drive to rights.

Good luck!
