You have the type of problem that would benefit greatly from local hands-on help.
It's not likely that your hard drive is fried -- yet. But a bad low level format could make it toast. It is likely that your drive has damaged clusters which need to be marked so they won't be used.
Either get your PC to a shop, or make a few quarts of lemonade for the local nerd/geek. Quick!
