Sorry to hear about your problems

I tried ZAP 4.5.530, 15-day trial version, but found it very buggy so I uninstalled it. I haven't tried 4.5.538 so cant comment on that

Have you tried installing version 3.7.211? You can get it from here:
http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/1001_zl/zaSetup_37_211.exe

which installs very easilly and is stable, then install the newer version over the top of it?

Apart from the new add-ons like cookie control/pop-ups etc, there seem to be no real diference in functionality between 3.7 and 4.5

If that fails, at least you will still have functioning firewall to fall back on.

Zone Labs make a good product but let themselves down on the install quality.
