Im having a similar problem. A freind gave me his old PB Force 3something PC. IT has a similar motherboard with the riser card having all the expansion slots. The pc had a Crystal sound card and no modem with I got it. I replaced the soundcard with a Soundblaster card and removed the old Crystal card. I am trying to add a Best Data 33.6 PNP modem that I know is good. ( i took it out of my primary pc when I upgraded that to a 56k) The readme files for the 33.6 says I need to disable COM1 on the BP, which I did in the BIOS as well as WIN98. The mdem shows up as COM3 but I get a message says "port already open" when I try to dial with it. Device Manager says everything is fine.
Does anyone no what I should do, its been a 2 day upgrade so far.
