HOLD EVERYTHING!
I've never seen the error message referring to "far" memory. But it saved you from a hassle you really don't want!
The CD Disk for reloading OEM programs will put your hard drive back to the state it was when it first came out of the box. I sincerely doubt that you want to do that.
I suggest you invest in a piece of software called Uninstaller by Cybermedia. It runs $20-30 retail, I think. I works very well and will clean up your now slightly messy installation without creating more problems.
As for the programs you don't see when you go to Start, they're probably still on the hard drive just not in the menu. Go to Start, then Settings, then Taskbar, then Start Menu Programs, then Add and reinstate them.
If the programs are really erased/deleted, and they existed only on the Restore CD, you may have to reload everything, or live without them.
Hope this helps.
