I wouldn't worry about the labels. Backup software typically labels the disks it writes because people don't. If you read the Help for the backup software, I think you'd find the "code" written to the label made sense.

However, it does sound like you have a problem. Best guess: erratic floppy drive.

Don't try to do anything with the "important" disks that you made during backup, at least not on your machine. Try reading them on another machine with the same backup software.

I think you'll find the disks can't be read. In that case, try using your machine to read good disks written on another similar machine. I'm guessing you'll come up with disk errors in this effort too.

If my diagnosis is correct, your floppy drive should be replaced, which is no big deal money-wise these days.

And then you should join my backup/checkem club. In this club, we learn that backing up is smart, but checking the backup is even smarter!
