One "frequency" that could make a difference is the refresh rate set for the monitor. (Right click on desktop, select Properties, then Settings, then Advanced, then Monitor -- your sequence may vary).

When it was new, the refresh rate may have been set to 75 Hz or higher to prevent visual flicker.  The aging monitor (or video card) may not be able to support a high refresh rate.

Try setting it to 60 Hz.

I have an elderly Dell running WIN 98 - upon start up one day it the screen displayed " Frequency over Range".... now nothing will happen....

I was able to get it into safe mode and I'm running scandisk "thorough" right now and nothing is coming up

any ideas?

i have been trying to build my own computer and i succeded. its not as hard as i thought. all the computer components i have tested in my working computer and they are all good. i have this other computer and the power comes on but the monitor light blinks on and off. i have no picture the resolution is all the way down. i cant figure out why i get no picture and the lights just blinks. the monitor works with my other computer. i have tried different motherboards, monitors and video cards and i cannot get it to work. please advise. thanks.

When a floppy gets stuck in the drive, it's usually because the silver access tab on the top of the floppy is bent up away from the body.  Put the drive at eye-level so you can guide the operation visually.  Open the drive door, if there is one, with your finger, and press down on the bent access tab with a very flat ruler, letter opener, or nail file.  Push the eject button when you've got the tab flat or flattened. Catch!
