Not really. In Brooklyn and Manhattan, where most sellers sign "exclusive" agreements with the selling broker, and very few properties become multiple-listed, it is very difficult for an exclusive buyers agent (EBA) to do business.

If a property is for-sale-by-owner or an exclusive with a broker who won't share the commission, the EBA can only get paid by agreement with the buyer. Buyers bawk at finder's fees. Hence EBAs in some areas are scarcer than hen's teeth.

Your best bet would be to determine the area in which you'd like to buy, then hook up with a major realtor who covers the area. Most majors will assign an in-house broker to work with you. This broker still gets paid by the seller and won't -- and can't -- be as forthcoming as an EBA, so once you find a property, engage an experienced real estate attorney to help you make a final decision.
